Dear Campers, Friends, and Supporters,
I’m trying to put this year’s camp at Yogi’s into perspective. It is impossible and just maybe herein lies the key. The uniqueness—the excitement of this camp belongs to the God who created heaven and earth. Each of the seven young men, teachers, builders, and mentors along with our purpose, skills, time, resources, and yes, a little red ’32 roadster belong to this Creator God! Maybe that’s why all the preparation of the past several months could not prepare us for this week. I Corinthians 2:9 says, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind conceived what God has prepared for those who love him.” Then Paul finishes in verse 10 by saying, ". . .but God has revealed it to us by His Spirit." For those who were there Wednesday afternoon in Yogi’s shop, time stood still. The world passed us by and the work stopped. Jake sat down by the “Little Red Roadster” and read from his Bible, and God’s spirit was surely in that place—it became holy ground. The love of Jesus was overflowing as we gathered around and prayed for each young man. Our prayers then expanded to the builders, teachers, and our photographer. No, no one was prepared for what we experienced. In a nutshell, we had church while building a “Little Red ’32 Roadster”. You just had to be there!
To our seven young men I want to say that God has His hand on your shoulder, and it was evident to the rest of us that you were divinely picked by God to be at this camp! All of us are proud of you and don’t forget the love that was shown to you as you received the passing of the baton on Saturday morning. Carry the baton well, run your race, and pass it on.
Josh Nix, you were an answer to prayer. As a college senior you mentored and “hung out” with these guys like none of us older guys could. You helped put this camp “over the top”.
I want to thank all our builders and teachers for your time, resources, and your love for Jesus. This was all good seed sown in good soil. Those who worked the “all nighter” on Friday allowed the roadster to be ready on Saturday. I know you don’t count the cost, but I do. It was above and beyond what was expected—you did it as unto the Lord!
It is an understatement to say that the guys from Pure Hot Rods, Inc., Aledo, IL, took us to a new level. Your experience and skill combined with the love of Jesus puts you at the TOP of our list! May the Lord return to you a hundred fold blessing!
To Jim, Bernard, Roger, Cole, Dan, Dwight, and Rick—you have given much. You have been involved in multiples of camps. You have encouraged me and been a great example to the young men at the camps. I believe other men will step up to the plate and be part of CRA Hot Rod Camps, Int'l because of you.
I want to thank our ladies who cooked and cooked and cooked!! What you accomplished could only compare to the feeding of the 5000! You were up before us in the morning and late to bed at night and somehow managed to pray every day for the camp! We love you.
Yogi, you did it again! How can we thank you for your shop, hospitality, experience, wisdom, and encouragement. Each of us is a better person because of you. Your reflection of the love of Jesus is an encouragement to all of us. May your house be blessed!
And finally to all of you who helped make this camp possible. Your donations in the form of parts, projects, financial contributions, scholarship contributions, and prayer made the camp happen for seven young men. Thank you from all of us. You make God’s vision for these camps possible. We are a better nation because these young men will take the love of Jesus to their world of influence. We will be a better nation because these young men will pass on the love of Christ to their children and their children’s children! May our nation return to its roots and again trust in the God who made heaven and earth.
